So, I’m sitting here watching the snow pile up outside.
It’s been snowing like mad for two days straight now. Two feet worth. For now, I can’t help but think it’s the coolest thing. When it’s still snowing six months from now, I’m sure I’ll feel otherwise. But, for the time being, let it snow!
When I was younger, I used to always go outside and watch as thunderstorms rolled in. And the more I watched, the more curious I got about what I was watching. So, I started reading. And I started learning. And the more I read and the more I learned, the more curious I got. Some twenty years later, and I know more about the weather than most people should ever really need to know. And when a big storm like the one I’m watching outside at this very moment approaches, I start digging into the computer models and the upper air data and whatever else I can get my hands on and pretend I’m the meteorologist I always wanted to be instead of the everything else I actually became.
As much as I love doing all that, there’s always a little voice in the back of my head, saying, “This is a waste of time. Stop being such a nerd. Go do something useful.” I’m always reluctant to discuss the weather with people, since I don’t want to be “that guy”, rambling on about computer models and upper air data and whatever else I got my hands on when they’re more interested in what the pretty blonde on TV said or just looking to kill time before the next conference call. I’ve gotten awfully good at pretending not to be passionate about anything, that’s for sure.
I don’t love doing that, though. Not at all.
I’ve been blogging now in some capacity since the beginning of time, and I’ve never really come out and said it, so here goes: I don’t find blogging all that interesting a hobby. So, why is it I wasted so many years blogging about Japanese cartoons? Well, you might be surprised to learn that I do find Japanese cartoons an interesting hobby. Don’t tell anyone, though. It’s a secret.
And I suppose that’s why I had such a good run here. I’m ashamed to admit I knew that a long time ago, but I’m a stubborn idiot, so…
… looks like the snow stopped.
Anyway, how ’bout that Endless Eight?

You missed quite an epic festival there you sure did.
Welcome back Jeff. A love-filled post is always a good thing. One year and eleven days. What did you do in such a long time ?
Was a bit surprised to see a new post pop up from this RSS feed ;)
Hope to see you posting more in the future :)
Surely some time has passed since last post. You a stubborn idiot? Dont think so. If so, we are two persons then. Its good to have you back.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! My favorite anime blog of all time is back. Welcome back.
I feel you with the whole weather thing. For me, I have an obsession with food. Fine food. French food. Expensive food. So I’ve got the “that food guy” thing going on, because unlike anime, everyone has at least some interest in food. And once I get on about a subject I’m interested in, there’s no holding me back.
Everyone else gets to talk about stuff they’re interested in or doing. Drinking, sports, drinking, etc. It sucks when your hobbies are niche to the point where you don’t have too many people to talk to about it. Thus, the internet. Plus, I think the stories of fantabulously expensive dining experiences rubs people the wrong way too often, which is the unfortunate unintended consequence of that interest. Oh well. What can you do?
And I vote thumbs up for Endless Eight.
Heh. I hope that the break from this specific area of blogging has been good for you. :)
Just over a year since your last post, nice timing Jeff.
Welcome back, once a blogger always a blogger ;).
And it’s hop, step, jump! for joy.
Welcome back!
Nothing better than a trio of undines to herald your return.
Welcome back.
Ok ok.
So I write this post about how lolitron.org was a great blog but now it’s dead, then he suddenly revives his blog.
I was going to get around to writing about HOP STOP JUMP as a dead anime blog, but now you’re back.
WHAT’S GOING ON.
Are we back in 2003? This is crazy. Welcome back!
Personally, since I started trying to read up on the science of the weather so I could make an informed decision about global warming, I find weather a very interesting topic so if you want to write about it - I’d love to read it.
“I’ve gotten awfully good at pretending not to be passionate about anything, that’s for sure.” That sounds an awful lot like me. I’ve spent my entire life trying to do just that. If it wasn’t for the anonymity of the internet, I’d've never start blogging and talking about anime - heaven knows I don’t talk to people in real life about anime, even to people that like anime.
And forgive me if I’m a bit selfish but I hope to see more posts soon because this has always been my favorite blog.
Damn glad to see you’re back. Now I have to redo my blogroll because I thought you were lost to the annals of anime blogs past.
I am so glad you are back. Let me express my gratitude for introducing me to Aria. It’s the best anime I have ever watched.
