In my kitchen at home, I have a calendar featuring the work of Utagawa Hiroshige. The print for the month of April was particularly soothing; given how frenetic a month it turned out to be, I found the juxtaposition amusing. What would the next month bring? Depends on how you look at it, I guess.
Believe it or not, I’ve been writing blog posts these past few weeks. Every single one remains unfinished, however. I haven’t been feeling particularly inspired, to say the least, and even when inspiration does hit, I’ve been having a difficult time putting my thoughts into words. Typically, I don’t ask too much of my brain when I write; as long as I have my thoughts in order, the writing process is a sort of involuntary reflex. When the reflex is functioning, good stuff happens. When it’s not, I’m paralyzed. I could never hack it as a professional writer, that’s for sure.
This morning, I had an idea for a blog post. First good one in awhile, really. After fifteen minutes of writing, the box score was six sentences, eight trips to the thesaurus, and a hundred paces around the room. I promptly hit the close button and went outside to water my garden.
So, I think it’s about time I take a long break. I don’t intend to make a big deal out of it, but I also don’t want to waste a bunch of time dicking around, pretending that the inspiration and energy to write is going to hit me when I wake up tomorrow morning. Because, that’s what I’ve been doing. And I also don’t want you, my readers, thinking, “What happened? Did he get eaten by sharks?” Better to just make everything clear.
Anyway, I’ll still be around. And if I feel like writing something, I will. Perhaps I’ll start a new blog somewhere and post pictures of my cat.
I guess I’ll have to get a cat.

I guess you’ll have to get a cat. :)
I know exactly how you feel. Contemplating whether I should do something similar myself. There’s no problem taking a break every once in a while. I look forward to your writings whenever I see them again. And that is an awesome ARIA picture. Would you know where I can find the original?
I’ve been missing your photos *hint*… and now that I look, I still have betsu ni RSSed so I’ll probably check right after this. Your Japan pictures will always be my favorite.
Let’s all get cats!
Good luck with the break, Jeff.
Reminds me of the first time I started blogging and just couldn’t stand that whatever I wanted to write never got written in a satisfactory manner (I’ve since had to erase that phase of my life n a fit of emo-ness). A break’s probably a good remedy of course - it’s usually when you tell yourself that you have no obligation to post that you get your best ideas BEGGING you to write about them…
Cats are nice.
Pumpkins a nice cat name…
Hm… cat photoblog… well anyways, hope you can get back to blogging. XD
*breaks open a thesaurus*
I prefer rabbits to cats, but I suppose it’s a case of different strokes (literally) for different folks. Anyhow, enjoy your vacation.
Ah we all go through similar times at some point. I know I sometimes just am not in the mood to write myself, even if I have stacks of good ideas I just can’t seem to articulate them well. I end up rewriting posts ten times, then don’t even bother publishing them. RIght now I have 39 posts in the “Drafts” folder!
Have a good break mate
“To become a successful author, one must write for the sake of sharing. Then inspiration will come naturally” that’s what my English professor had always said. Anyway, make the best out of your summer vacation and I will be looking forward to the new blog posts in the near future (hopefully).
Noooo! Dogs are better! ^^;
Natch.
Rest assured that we will miss you and what you have to say. Thanks for all the wonderful images and insights.
Writing is like a hard at-bat; sometimes you just have to foul off some good ideas.
That is why you should make Momotato write for you! collab ftw.
Good luck and have fun. :3
But I still don’t understand what it is about cats… Yet I’m still watching Chi’s Sweet Home. :P
Cats bring luck!! (sometimes…. lol)
Demian: The original image is here.
Enjoy your holiday, Jeff. I’ll look forward to seeing the fruits off your time off on your photoblog.
Yo Jeff, you should directly provide a link to the hi-def versions of your pictures all the time. I love every single one of them. Even the ronery Noe one. XD
I find it’s easier to just point people in the right direction when asked. The images are sourced from different locations, so I don’t always remember where I obtained them.
Congratulations, Jeff! Congratulations, again, Jeff!
