It may have been a cold and gloomy day with snow flakes flying, and I may have destroyed a hard disk the day before, and I may be thinking, “you know, a vacation sounds nice right about now,” but the news that more Clannad is on the way makes me smile all the same.
Not that it comes as much of a surprise, of course. I haven’t watched the final two episodes of the first season yet, but based on what I’ve heard, it ends in fairly ambiguous fashion. And given that the anime series didn’t even acknowledge a full third of the original game’s content, it only stood to reason that some sort of continuation would be in the works. After all, Kyoto Animation was relatively thorough in its adaptations of Air and Kanon, so I would expect the same for Clannad.
Personally, I’m as happy as can be about the news. I really have found Clannad to be an engaging and enjoyable show, and because the pacing of the story has been very slow and very deliberate, it’s only gotten more engaging and more enjoyable with time. I’m not ready for it to end. No way, no how.
My condolences, of course, to the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi fans out there still waiting for news on a second season of that particular series. It’s no secret that I’m not the world’s biggest Haruhi fan, but I still look forward to a second season of the series because, one, it’ll probably be a fun watch, and two, people will finally shut up about it.
I’ll take more Clannad first, though.
This does me good to hear. I enjoy wide open endings, but it’s nice to to have to peer for the edges.

I’m sure when more Haruhi appears it will break all records in its awesomeness, so let’s let the dangos continue their time in the spotlight!

I don’t want more Clannad :( ONE WAS ENOUGH
I had a crappy day at work. I was yelled at by two faculty members (for something that wasn’t the fault of the Duck U. Bookstore at all). I had students trying to return books they bought in December, and getting angry because I wouldn’t do it. I have a friend that’s so down that she can’t even spell the word “up”. I was even interrupted by an emergency phonecall when I was in the shower.
But when I saw the 14 second promo for Clannad: After Story, I smiled for the first time all day.
(for what it’s worth? The Haruhists out there, of which I am one, should stop whining about the second season already. There’s not a cold chance in Hell that it’s going to measure up to the fanboy wishes and predictions, the way it’s been built up as teh @w3sum… and meanwhile, KyoAni keeps turning out fantastic shows. I’ll take a season of Kanon and 1-2 seasons of Clannad over 13-26 eps of Haruhi 2: The Wrath Of Kahn any day.)
Hey Wildarms it’s not really “more Clannad” as it is “finishing Clannad” I’ll take my color of sorrow over Haruhi for now. I like Haruhi too but I really want to see them finish Clannad.

Wrath of Kahn was one of the best Sci-fi movie in history in my opinion, so if Haruhi 2 be something comparable to it, I will take it over 97% of anime series in history.
I have a hunch that Kyoto Animation will wait until book 10 of Haruhi series is out so they could come up with coherent story for the entire second season.
The good news are always welcome. Lets wait and see about Clannad and Haruhi. I bet we will be surprised with the results (for good I hope). Both shows are very good and both could be considered best shows in anime history.

It was good news indeed. I’ve been fan of all things KEY for a long time, even made an AMV of AIR once… anyway, waiting for new Clannad episode to be released was always something to wait for, and I was rather sad for it to end. I don’t want to spoil since everyone hasn’t seen the end of first season, but I wouldn’t say “ends in ambiguous fashion”. Guy gets the girl. That’s not ambiguous at all :D And last few minutes of episode 22 are really beautifully animated. KyoAni at their best!
