Spring Preview

Work is keeping me on my toes, so new posts will be lacking for another week or so. That said, following up on my earlier post, here’s a quick glance at the new shows I’m interested in for the coming Spring season…

Toshokan Sensou - Typically, I view shows that air in the Notiamina time slot on Fuji TV in one of two ways: I either love them, or I have zero interest in them. Nothing in between. Since I’m already interested in Toshokan Sensou, I can only assume I’ll end up loving it. Very scientific, I know. Seriously, though, this show looks like the sort of mainstream, adult targeted fare I dig. And the popularity of the original novels is hard to ignore.

Kure-nai - I’m surprised by how little attention this show is receiving, because the more I learn about it, the more I feel it’s poised to be one of the season’s better offerings. Either way, the premise grabs me, and I’m attracted by both the character designs and the general look of the animation as seen in the show’s trailer. And, on that note, the banter between the two leads in the latter half of the trailer suggests some lively voice acting. And by “lively”, I mean, “that’s one bitchy sounding tsundere.”

Macross Frontier - Just as a lot of anime fans have a special place in their heart for all things Gundam, I have a special place in my heart for all things Macross. However, while there’s been plenty of activity on the Gundam front in recent years, the same can’t be said for Macross. Hopefully, this entry in the franchise will make up for all those years of waiting. And, speaking of years of waiting, I’m excited to see Yoko Kanno and Maaya Sakamoto working together again. I hope it isn’t a one time thing.

Itazura na Kiss - When all else fails, watch shoujo. This actually looks like fairly generic shoujo, and the fact that it’s only thirteen episodes in length despite the story in the manga spanning decades kind of leaves me scratching my head. That could very well end up being the show’s secret weapon, however. I’m a bit curious to see how it plays out.

S.A - Special A-Class - I’ve heard good things about the manga, and I really can’t pass on what looks to be a solid shoujo comedy in an otherwise slow season. I really enjoy watching this sort of stuff. My initial impression is that it looks and sounds like Ouran High School Host Club’s trailer park cousin, but I expect I’ll be proven wrong.

It is Ouran’s trailer park cousin. That’s what makes it enjoyable. Obviously, there are many differences, especially with the leads, but the overall aura of the manga (and presumably the show) is like what you described.

Well, that’s good to hear! Now I’m even more interested.

Sensou = probably the most attractive name ever for a very attractive series

Kure-nai = same character design as Red Garden? Looks neat.

Macross = character designs in the trailer seems to have gone down just a tad… just a tad, though - still love the 1st ep, let us hope they keep the quality and fps up.

Itazura = nope, not for me…

SA = very interesting - I absolutely ADORE unrequited love and student competition. Not a fan of the actual club plot and shoujo comedy, but I’m interested in the characters’ reactions toward each other.

Great choices, I’m looking forward to these shows as well (and a few more) =D

I can’t help but think that people have the ‘wrong’ impression of Toshokan Sensou. Instead of the serious ‘information’ aspect, what I like most about it is the character dynamics. It has more shoujo and fun elements that what you might think, a great mix of romance, comedy and action ^-^ oh, and I got this from reading the novel (at a snail pace), and a bit of the mangas.

And ah~ Kurenai. One of my most anticipated Spring offerings as well. I pimped it not too long ago, and mentioned about how it reminded me of Aishiteruze Baby, an action-packed and more wacky version, because of the naughty Murasaki (the loli tsundere) xD

As a fangurl, there’s no way I should pass up on Itazura na Kiss and Special A, two fun lighthearted shoujo offerings of Spring :3

I hate shoujo anime, but certain details on SA made it look kind of interesting. Then I see it compared to Ouran. Yeah, skipping :(

Yeah. I was really interested in this then I heard the girl. Still interested, but approaching with caution~

The ones that I’m interested in your list are S.A and Itazura Na Kiss.

I’m hoping S.A to be as good as Ouran.
And what? Itazura Na Kiss is only 13 episodes?
I thought that the story spans over 10 years.
    This is getting me worried..

Can’t wait for macross frontier. But i’m even more excited about Code Geass Season II

I’ve been eager for Toshokan Sensou since I heard about its premise of guerrilla librarians fighting censoship.

Ai Yori Aoshi was a pretty fun show. Can’t say much about the second season though. I still need to finish up the manga…

Anyway, the only one you mentioned that I’m remotely interested in is Kurenai.

I’m not too excited for the new shows this season. For me Kimagure Orange Road and Maison Ikkoku are showing for the first time. Yeah, yeah I am a little late. Late by 20 years.

I’ll just watch most things I can get my hands on. And see if they are interesting through the first four or five episodes. I do not have a full-time job so I have the free time to spend.

Special Class, well I liked Ouran mostly for the humor in it, what I fear is that it will be more of what I have already seen. Beyond that I fear nothing.

As for Macross, last thing I saw was Macross Zero and that one was very good in my opinion. And foremost the Soundtrack, Yoko Kanno did a very good job with Ghost in the Shell (GitS) I hope those two combined will have a very nice orchestrated music for my ears.

Library War.. Unsure, it sounds a bit awkward. But it’ll be at least worth trying it out I think. Low expectations bring surprises with it.

    Sincerely
