In an episode of something I watched recently (it might have been Genshiken), a character made a comment about having a “forehead fetish”, and ever since, I’ve been wondering: are prominent foreheads now a commonly accepted moe mode?
I mean, Iori is my favorite character from Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA. Please tell me it’s not because of her prominent forehead. It’s because I’m a Tamura Yukari fan, right? RIGHT?

I remember Haruko from My-Hime also being described as a forehead moe character. Of the many fetishes coming out of Japan, I would say the forehead fetish is the one I understand the least.

Foreheads are common jokes in Shinbo shows — Madoka in Yamamoto Yohko, and Miyako in Pani poni dash were teased for their foreheads (Madoka was also mantis-haired). Surely there’s one in Negima!? and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei….
In the short profiles found in the Lucky Star manga, Hiyori and Ayano have “odeko” listed as one of their attributes.
And don’t get me started on eromanga >_>.

Yes, that was Genshiken. Madarame was filling out that job app, and was wondering if he should note that he has a lolita complex and forehead fetish, as a joke.

Don’t some Haruhi doujins have Tsuruya obsessed with them from what I hear? If there was an explanation for it, I think I might understand it better, but at the moment, it’s still a little bizarre.
Petite Princess Yucie? Arc calls Yucie “Odeko-chan”. And the other girls tease her about her high forehead, too. (At least, Glenda does.)
Im also fan of Tamura Yukari (and all female characters of Idolmaster Xenoglossia, lol) and i dont think it is because of her forehead.. but i imagine her face very soft and delightful.

Puchi Puri Yuushi is actually were I first encountered the whole forehead thing. Or first noticed it, at least.
There’s something for everyone, I guess.
That’s just an example for overuse of certain terms on the internet and how language becomes more and more incoherent. Maybe one of the problem behind this is people are trying to express themselves with as few words as possible. So everybody’s talking to everyone but very few can actually deliver any message because understanding them would require reading their minds or at least be very familiar with these people. Not to mention that many are keen to pick-up terms without understanding their meaning causing once clear-defined terms to become ambiguous and extremely context-sensitive. I’m almost sure few to none have a forehead “fetish”. Even in Genshiken this term was a joke, Madarame wasn’t serious and most of the so-called fetishes in anime/manga are nothing but themes or memes. People have all kind of strong and weak preferences like hair colours, hair styles, cup sizes, dress styled and pretty much much any other attribute a human may have. However none of that constitutes a “fetish” per se. A “fetish” is a much stronger affection and may even turn into a serious psychological problem.

Another Iori fan. She’s my favourite too. By the way, while Iori was voiced by Yukari Tamura for the anime, in the game she is done by Rie Kugimiya. I can’t say which I prefer though as both Seiyuu sound so similar to such an extent that they are actually paired together as twin characte Mayl and Tayl in Heroic Age and I literally cannot tell their voices or characters apart.
