Wrapped In The Scene of Summer

In case you didn’t know, Daylight Saving Time will begin a month earlier than usual this year here in the States. It’s probably only a matter of time before the concept is legislated out of existence entirely. Ever since I was a child, I looked forward to the artificial changing of the clocks. I suppose it’s because I grew up at such a southern latitude that Summer always overstayed its welcome. The calender may have said Autumn, but the trees were always still green come the end of October.

And I hated Summer with a passion. I hated the heat. I hated being out of school. I rarely looked forward to my birthday, since that week always seemed to be the hottest and longest of the season. Even now, I don’t give the day much thought. But when the clocks changed and the sun set earlier, I knew Summer was over. It’s how I came to mark the change of season.

Now, however, I live somewhere entirely different. Winter isn’t exactly harsh here, but it comes early and stays late. In some ways, Summer never really comes to pass. And while I’m not entirely sure I’m ready for Winter to “end”, I suppose I look forward to the day I pull the clock down from the wall and spin the hour hand forward. And I’ll miss it when it’s gone.

Just a thought as I rewatch Air for the first time.

On the flip side, I love most aspects of summer. I love being free from school. I love having random free time to do random stuff. I do, however, hate the heat (who doesn’t?).

And a slight tangent: Too bad there’s no sad-girls-under-the-sun meme.

    RAMEN!

    *cough*

I’ll be glad once Summer is over. An Australian Summer is something I don’t look forward to every year, especially when it comes to 40 degree centigrade heat waves.

I like some of the quirks of summer, but I generally prefer autumn and winter more. The heat waves in California’s central valley can get pretty bad and usually keep me indoors more so than winter’s cold and rain. Oh well. DST…. losing an hour of sleep in never fun, especially losing it a month earlier than usual.

As for Air, the second time I watched, I don’t know why, but I didn’t enjoy it as much. Maybe the WOW factor was gone and a lot of the emotion was already experienced. I haven’t watched anytime Air related in a long while, so maybe it would be different now.

I wait to rewatch AIR every July. It’s just a summer thing, I suppose.

I live in Saint Louis… you do not want to be here in Summer… People die from the heat!!!

I rewatch what I got from the Fall and spring

Living in Indiana all my life, we didn’t observe DST until last year, so all DST meant to me was that Rocko’s Modern Life came on an hour earlier in the summer.

I enjoyed that about summer, and the days that weren’t 90 degrees and humid as hell, but that’s about it.

I don’t get a chance to rewatch fansubbed anime, and probably won’t get around to rewatching Air unless it gets a R1 DVD release. I’m not sure if that’s bad or not, but I liked it and I should get around to watching it again someday, I suppose.

I used to hate the summer heat too–but by the end of each season I’m always ready for the change that comes with the next. Of course, now that I live in California the “seasons” here are poor shadows of their East Coast cousins, and “winter” just means that it’s in the 60s during the day, maybe there’ll be frost overnight, and occasionally there’s rain. I’m damn glad DST is starting earlier though, since getting off work and having it dark outside already is depressing–I’d rather drive to work in the dark and at least have some daylight when I get home.

Rewatching Air’s a good idea though…I’ve found myself doing a lot of rewatching of older series too lately, and Air does do a good job of portraying summer. Although I’m in the minority that wishes Kannabi no Mikoto got much more screentime than Misuzu.

Summer used to be my favorite season because I never went to school and I was born in the summer. Now, it’s my second favorite behind spring because Cal heat can kill you, I don’t look forward to my birthdays anymore and worst of all, I work during the summer unlike being back in school. Oh and like what Spiritsnare said, too bad there’s no sad-girls-under-the-sun meme.

Even though I live in America, I have never liked DST. I’d rather live in a place like Japan and never have to experience it. You lose an hour of sleep and you move an hour closer to school/work.

Suguru, have you watched the “Air in Summer” episodes that aired a few months following the TV series? Kanna is pretty much the star of those.

Air, the anime I was looking for lately thanks for reminding me. And about summer, I agree with you on most aspects, unfortunately anime isn’t a thing that lasts forever, I usually have the feeling of “don’t let this feeling go away” it’s like an addiction to when watching summer in anime, I like it, summer has something playfully about it, while winter has something romantic (kanon is so far entirely in winter).

but one thing about summer, mini skirts ^^ and I agree with the sad-girls-under-the-sun meme. although i don’t know for sure what it means (anyone explain?) I do think I know what it is so therefore I agreed.

just looking at that picture you posted makes me want summer! (that pic is Air if I’m right?)

Give me summer any day. I work an outside job until midnight or sometimes third shift overnight, and let me tell you Midwest winter is freaking cold. As in, below zero cold. As in, it hurts to be outside even when wearing multiple layers cold.
