New Nanoha project in the works? I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a third TV series, but I have a nagging feeling it’s just an OAV. Hopefully, I’m wrong.

While cleaning out some old files last night, I noticed I still had the last two episodes of The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi sitting on my hard drive. After rewatching them, my feelings about the show have softened somewhat. The ending still feels a little empty, however, since, if the final episode is actually intended to be the sixth episode, all of the important things that happen within seem to have little to no lasting effect on the overall story or the characters involved. I know it’s a reset, “life goes on” ending of sorts, but it still doesn’t make much sense when you take the episode shuffling into account - especially given how careful the show was about maintaining continuity otherwise.

Call for bloggers? I’ve long figured it’s just a matter of time before we see an anime blogging panel at a major industry convention. The reason it hasn’t happened yet, I think, is because the anime blogging community is still quite young, and was a fairly decentralized place prior to the launch of Blogsuki. And, let’s face it: as great as Animenano is, it’s still only a couple of months old - and the vast majority of the blogs listed there are less than a year old. So, yeah, it’s a young community, us few old-timers notwithstanding. Next con season, perhaps?

One of my best friends plays the theremin. He also plays the Legend of Zelda. On the theremin.

Seriously.

Oh, and one last thing…

Dori and Gura are so totally guys.

    *SPOILER of sorts*

The ending of ‘Haruhi’ actually makes more sense if you’ve read the novel. The core six episodes are the book; everything else is, I assume, from the other novels or new for the series.

I’m still not sure about the shuffling of episodes, though. I just can’t see any rhyme or reason behind it.

Still enjoyed the show, hope there’s another one in the works, but yeesh… I could do without the scrambling of episodes next time, thanks.

Fate stays the night indeed. \o/ I need to come up with a new punny slogan now. Like, Viva Viita?

I think the blog thing will vary on who you talk to. My opinion is that even with animenano and blogsuki, we’re still talking about just one part of anime blogsphere. There’s just a lot of…crap, lacking a better word, on the internet in the form of a blog or something akin to it. This is even more so true once you include industry blogs and news blogs, or even webcomics and podcast-type things. IMO there’s more than enough to talk about in a panel.

My family got a new HDTV. Hare Hare Yukai is just jawdropping awesome on it w/ the HD raw… Time to rewatch it on HD!

I will still stand by my hope that Dorii and Gura are girls in the anime!

As for SHnY… I still need to rewatch the series in order. But so far, it seems better to watch in order than in the jumping one.

And the theremin thing, that is just f*cking cool.

Well, if you consider news blogs and industry blogs… well, things get pretty crazy pretty quickly. A blog is a blog, but with so many different things to focus on, you have to take care that an “Anime Blogging Today” panel doesn’t balloon into an “Anime on the Internet Today” panel. Although, you’ll probably attract more eyeballs with the latter. Either way, I agree… there’s more than enough to talk about it, and more than enough interesting people available to do the talking.

A new Nanoha series? How will they go about it though? Will it focus on the 6-year blank before the last few minutes of A’s? Or will it focus on the adventures of teen-Nanoha and her friends (which probably places it squarely in the timeline of Triangle Hearts)?

As for Haruhi… The events of the last episode do have lasting effects, though they are very subtle, especially if one isn’t familiar with the Haruhi series of novels.

The most obvious, of course, is Kyon starting to call Haruhi by her first name, instead of using the formal ‘Suzumiya’ (like Mikuru and Koizumi do), outside of his mental narrative (remember, amongst the Japanese, one can only start calling someone by the first name once they’ve achieved a certain closeness in their relationship; to do so otherwise would be rude).

The second most noticeable change is the fact that Kyon ‘loosens up’ a bit, in the later episodes (though it’s really hard to tell with Kyon, since his attitude is always borderline cynical). Also, he seems to have gotten a measure of influence over Haruhi’s decisions, and as Koizumi pointed out in Sagittarius, he’s developed a sort of unspoken trust with Haruhi…

It really makes much more sense if one reads some of the novels, though they’re not exactly arranged in chronological order either (take note, it’s Tanigawa himself who requested for the episode shuffle).

    AN OVA IS FINE TOO

Yeah, that’s a pretty important point. When I submitted my abstract for MangaNEXT, they accepted it, but with the caveat that “Just make sure that it’s about specifically manga and doesn’t end up covering every kind of anime/manga-related fandom.”

I have great hopes for 9rules Anime. Holy cow now that I think about it, 9rules Anime is only a months old. I think you make a good point about anime blogging in general and how it’s a fairly recent thing.

I hope that the cross pollination from the other communities within 9rules will encourage more people to blog about anime. I mean look at Scrivs. Who knew that he liked anime?

I’m siding with you on this one. Since they’ve already finished narrating what happens to Nanoha and friends in the two seasons (original and the A’s), I’ll be surprised if they can extend the continuity further. An OAV would be enough as a tribute of sorts.

Well, unless “milking money” is an option.

One of my best friends plays the theremin. He also plays the Legend of Zelda. On the theremin. Seriously.

    A theremin player? That’s awesome!

Oh, and also Griffith of Forever Geek. He’s been the author of anime-related posts, whether reviews or first impressions (a la Hung of Basugasubaguhatsu)

I’ll be surprised if they can extend the continuity further.

So you are saying its totally impossible that interesting things happen to them AFTER the age of 15?

  11. 11 Ronin

@Fencedude: Well, they have already pulled all the stops (when they forego magical girl transformation animations in favor of said magical girls kicking ass with awesome weaponry) when they “created” A’s, so I’m quite expecting that they’ll be able to make another one, a few years further into their future.

    Ever wonder what happens after?

New villains? Plot twists? Shocking revelations? Further friendship development? Closure to any plot holes (if existent)? We shall see.
