A few (more) random thoughts regarding the new season…
School Rumble still needs more Eri. I notice that her character features less prominently in the new OP. Is this some kind of sign? I hope not.
I can’t get enough of GIRL’S HIGH. Yeah, it’s stupid… GOD, is it stupid. Why can’t I stop laughing?
The Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OP sequence is incredible.
I’ve yet to watch past the first episode of xxxHOLiC. Strange. Am I suffering from CLAMP fatigue?
The Simoun OP and ED singles are great. I care not for the show, however. The power of yuri does not compel me. I do love me some Savage Genius, though.
I still can’t pronounce Utawarerumono correctly. Not on the first try, at least.
ARIA The Natural is really outperforming its predecessor thus far. More Aika blushing, please. And more Alice.
When you think about it, Ouran High School Host Club is really just the same joke over and over again. But, the fact that it’s the same joke over and over again seems to be a joke in itself. Weird, huh?
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi still rocks, of course.
I finally, FINALLY caught Haruhi #1 today. Wow. I spent the whole episode going, “okay, the narrator is a hoot and a half, but really, I can’t wait for the real show to start.” Then, you know, the finale of the “film” came and my eyes popped out of my head.
Clever. Damned clever. Now, of course, I need to watch #2… and so on, and so on.
The power of yuri, I admit, has some hold over me… but is it enough to make Simoun work? Only time will tell. And I’m guessing it won’t all that much time, either.
With regard to Strawberry Panic, I guess the power of yuri DOES compel me. It’s not enough to rescue Simoun, though.
Haruhi is really something… I mean, as much as I poke at the bandwagoners, it’s a quality show. Absolutely hilarious, too. It’s one of several good shows this season, however, so I have a hard time giving it my full and undivided attention.
I don’t know that it’d be CLAMP fatigue on xxxHolic. I think it’s more that it’s simply not shaping up to be what it could’ve been. The ball was dropped somewhere, but I’m not sure if it lies in the design work, Watanuki, or some less obvious area.
I find Watanuki to be really annoying at this point. His ranting habit gets stale fast.

I actually rather like xxxholic as an adaptation, but for the same reason why you can’t focus on Haruhi, I can’t really break and watch that stuff. In fact things are so fast paced I have to make a concious effort to stop and smell the Aria downloads. Well-presented shows like Utawarerumono is falling through the cracks, too, just because it has a weak narrative force.
I can proudly say that the power of Yuri doesn’t compel me to watch Strawberry. However the power of futanari compels me to watch Simoun~ That and the lovely sound effect.

Err, yeah. And it scares me. So much potential for so much unappealing porn!
I guess I can say that the power of Yuri compells me to watch both Simoun and Strawberry, though I’d gather many a worst-case yuriholics have turned away from the former disapointedly because the show hasn’t really been half as servicable as one’d expect from the initial premise. Strawberry on the other hand is chock-full of panderlicious innuendo and girls that are gay by a multitude of definitions for the word.
Knowing his tastes, it’s easy to see why Jeff likes Strawberry more, but for me Simoun is a more compelling watch - There’s a set up for more in Simoun than girl’s just fancying each other in a scoop of otaku-geared melodrama, or at least for a scoop of otaku melodrama in a more interesting setting, which is probably why I find more palatable and the other. And well, it helps that it doesn’t take the yuripandering to the verge of being a parody like Strawberry Panic does. I CAST LEVEL SIX HOLD PERSON -HYPNO YURIGAZE ON YOU! ? :p
Simoun’s also a whole lot more appealing to me designwise (both character and other), whereas Strawberry unfortunaetly pokes me in the eyes with its toothpicks-for-limbs every time there’s a scene where you see the lower half of a character’s body =/
