Alas, I don’t hate it. I love it now more than ever… just not in the expected way, I suppose.
Actually, I’m a little surprised with the favorable reaction to the ending. I mean, on the goofiness scale, it blows the Mai-HiME ending out of the water… and we all know how well THAT went over.
The point is, not everyone likes what you like and not everyone has the same opinion as you do, so stop kvetching about it. If you feel I’m a “broken record”, why waste your time reading my blog? Why waste your time commenting? Lord knows I’m tired of wasting my time responding.
Why waste your time blogging a series you obviously have little interest in? You have to admit that this particular post of yours is trivial and probably wasn’t even worth writing in the first place. I honestly thought with your post title that you actually found SOMETHING to praise Sunrise over, alas, more flogging of a dead horse. As for you being tired of responding to me, that’s your fault, you could’ve taken the easy way out and just deleted my comments for being ‘offensive or abusive’, but nooo you had to go down to my level and assault my sense of taste, now you are stuck talking to some guy who thinks that a blogger should actually write something that the reader would find worth reading.
Oh, give me a fucking break. If it “wasn’t worth writing in the first place”, I wouldn’t have posted it, now would I?
I try to keep the content here interesting for the sake of my readers, but I’m not going to bend over backwards trying to satisfy every whiny little fanboy who comes stumbling through. I’m not trying to be homecoming king here. This is my blog, and if I feel like “flogging a dead horse,” I’ll flog it until there’s nothing left.
And, honestly, I’m not going to go off deleting comments simply because someone’s being a jackass. I have thicker skin than that, my friend.
I actually didn’t think that the ending was that bad, though overall, Mai-Otome lacked the oomph that Mai-HiME had, and the ending didn’t help to change things. I just get the feeling that more could have been done, but who knows? Maybe the OVA might help things.
Did you know yuri protects you from re-entry burn damage? Talk about cost-saving technique for NASA.
I thought it ended great. Ever since the OP changed on Otome I was waiting to see all this stuff in ep 25 and 26. Now I have and I leave the show satisfied. The only wish I didn’t get was seeing the run-off take-off (as in Nadesico).
I just found the ending to be kinda blah. The power of yuri saving them from burning up in reentry was good, of course, but Sergei didn’t stay dead. That kinda ruined it. And the borg Nina didn’t last very long.
At least Mai Hime had the guts to kill characters off, even if they all came back at the end.
As far as the Mai-Hime endging goes, I think most of the ruckus about it stems from the actual way it ended, not from how silly or contrived it was. In that vein Otome also has a lot more leeway to work with, since it didn’t go all clusterfuck-the-cast with its plot like its predecessor.
As for Otome, I thought The ending was All Good.
….Well, except for the very final part. IT’S NOT INCEST IF HE DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT IT!!11??2 Oh well.
Well, it may have suffered a bit from the need to show-off the humongous cast and not really explaining much about things in the end, but it covered everything critical, but overall the Mood Was Right on spot on Arika was Very Very Very Right \o/, and that’s what really mattered the most to me in the end.
Well, I´m not completly satisfied with the ending/show… but it had some good moments and nice background stories… - all the countries with their unique relationships… the different oppinions/ should power/ technology kept hidden away or should the public get access to it… was promising (despite the fact that mayor power was laid into the hands of teenage girls)…
The ending was a little pit too “happy-pappy”… the good guys always saved in the last moment… no casualties among the otomes (so no tear-breaking moments when your favourite heroine goes up in sparkels *snief*)… and Arika (for god´s sake why???) had to fight her friend in the end alone… (by the way i didnt like the main character too much)… and why had she the power to go against the Harmonium??? Maybe the OVA will give some answers.
(I´m not really fluent in english - so if you find mistakes gramatic or spelling you can keep them :o)
In retrospect, seriously, the climax and end of the show was episode 24. Episodes 25 and 26 merely “undo” the unbelievable drama that preceeded them. If you didn’t laugh at those episodes, and watched them with a serious mindset, then you’ve been punk’d.
It’s amusing really since anime bloggers can’t bash an episode nor series without receiving some type of critism. Yet, when they run a blog it’s mainly their opinions not anyone elses, but it’s great when readers give their inputs. However to a certain extent some people can be major arses…it’s like they don’t understand.
For ex. In my shout box one reader says “after reading your opinion of genshiken why do you at all keep this blog,if you do not like anime and manga.”
OH MY…$#@*%! How shall I respond to this…please help me! Haha I feel like I just wrote a help column in a newspaper! :D
The show was cheesy to begin with, but the ending was fondue.
Just a case of natural evolution, then? Or, cheesyness rises on a logritmic scale? :p
If you didn’t laugh at those episodes, and watched them with a serious mindset, then you’ve been punk’d.
I think it’d be inclined to say that about the whole show. Looking at it from that perspective, I think some people were just burned by the Himelander and the following ending of Mai-Hime - They still don’t “get it” ;).
But I guess one of the things I liked about the final episodes is the “denoument”-playout of it. As said, the stage is all ready set, you know what will happen and what will need to happen, so the only thing for you to do is to lay back, enjoy the ride and lip up the overflowing Camembert watch fireworks you’ve been waiting for.
A turboprop isn’t a jet engine, yet you can still use both to propel a craft through the air.
Yeah, like 90% of all sister-fucking anime out there they use the “omg not blood related” cop-out, doesn’t mean it makes it any less condemnable.
Pepsi may not 100% be the same as coca-cola, but it resembles it enough to be called a “cola soft drink”. That is to say, if they’ve lived their lives as a family and not stragers, regardless of blood relationships, well…
Not to mention Mai Otome’s case looks doubly worse because it cops-out on the cop-out.
I dunno about you, but I’d be pretty shocked if I’d one day wake up and remembered that the would-be wife I’ve been banging the past ten years actually is my step-daughter that just didn’t feel like telling me that little fact…
Given that they’re not related by blood, I think cries of “ZOMG! INCEST!” are a bit much. Same with, say, Nemu and Jun’ichi. It’s scandalous, yes, but not Koi Kaze level scandalous.
Can any Incest story can get higher than Koi Kaze? There, those two are full-blooded brother and sister, and they went into it with full knowledge of who they were, what they were doing, how others thinks of them, and what will be future consequences.
You hate Mai-Otome, we got it the first time, k? You’re beginning to sound like a broken record.
Wait, we’re in agony over that finale?
Alas, I don’t hate it. I love it now more than ever… just not in the expected way, I suppose.

Oh, and mikemil828… your favorite show sucks.
Since you seem to know a lot about me for spme reason, what is my favorite show then? Sure ain’t Mai-Otome, or Mai anything for that matter.
I don’t care what your favorite show is.
The point is, not everyone likes what you like and not everyone has the same opinion as you do, so stop kvetching about it. If you feel I’m a “broken record”, why waste your time reading my blog? Why waste your time commenting? Lord knows I’m tired of wasting my time responding.

Jeff I think you’ve brought up a good point. Everyone isn’t you and you aren’t everything.
Hmm….”go down to my level” I completely agree with this statement.
Jeff, keep up the good work and don’t let the nobodies (no not Kingdom Hearts II) get to you.
I second Michael’s comment.
lololololol Yuri!

Otome did have the guts to kill off one character.
Erstin ring any bells?
Is it too much to ask for less skin and more variety and depth?
As far as the Mai-Hime endging goes, I think most of the ruckus about it stems from the actual way it ended, not from how silly or contrived it was. In that vein Otome also has a lot more leeway to work with, since it didn’t go all clusterfuck-the-cast with its plot like its predecessor.

The ending utterly betrayed the artistic integrity of the show. No, that can’t be right. That would be praise?
The show was cheesy to begin with, but the ending was fondue.

Its not incest.
Period.
THEY ARE NOT RELATED BY BLOOD.
You can make arguments for pedofilia, but in a few years, it wont’ matter.
Oh come on.
A turboprop isn’t a jet engine, yet you can still use both to propel a craft through the air.
