Kashimashi is a great show, but there’s something that’s been bugging me: Yasuna’s “inability” to see men. It strikes me as an unnecessary gimmick, to be honest. After all, it’s been strongly suggested that Yasuna’s a lesbian… wouldn’t that alone be enough to explain her renewed attraction to Hazumu following his transformation? Why complicate matters unnecessarily?
Of course, it’s possible I’m not seeing the forest for the trees here. For example, Mr. Spaceman obviously has some interest in Yasuna, suggesting a possible connection between her “condition” and Hazumu’s situation. And I suppose it could be an intentional loophole, ready to be exploited should Hazumu return to his original form at the end of the show. You know, “Yasuna’s not a lesbian! With her condition cured and Hazumu back to normal, they can live happily ever after!”
Awfully convenient, you say? It’s anime. Start placing your bets.
As for Tomari vs. Yasuna, I don’t know yet which cheering squad to join. After all, it’s really not as clear cut as, say, Honoka vs. Suzuka (FIGHT!). I really like Tomari, and I agree that, as the (apparently) straight, childhood friend, she’s getting the shaft (ha!), but I don’t see how that’s Yasuna’s fault. For that matter, I can’t fault Yasuna for quickly moving in on Hazumu when Tomari’s been doing nothing but spinning her wheels since the very beginning. And, if you consider Hazumu’s feelings, it’s only natural that Tomari be the one left out. In other words, if Tomari wants to win, it’s her responsibility to step up to the plate. Until then, she’s in no position to condemn Hazumu and Yasuna’s budding (hawt shoujo-ai) relationship.
God, what’s become of me? Anyone want to talk Korean soap operas?

You got a ponit here!
But there is also bugging me about this triangle… if you read the manga, chapters 12, 13 and 14, I don’t like how they take the path… unless a big change is going to happen here, maybe we don’t gonna see the happy ending HazumuxYasuna
Oh God! Why am I troubled with this ^_^
I’m still holding out for the glasses-wearing Nanaka lookalike Ayuki to sneak in for the win. Barring that, Yasuna’s got to grow some (figuratively) and stick it to Hazumu (again, figuratively) already!
The whole ‘can’t see men’ thing strikes me as a pretty ludicrous and hard to believe gimmick, likely set up to enable her to eventually be with a back-to-boy Hazumu. Unless we get some explanation for it, anyway.
I think it would be better if Yasuna turned out to be a GUY and then Tomari falls in love with her, and Asuta takes Hazumu FTW. But that won’t happen.
But my bet is on the possibility that there will be another “gender crisis” towards the end, and that Hazumu will have the choice of being a guy or a girl, and he will choose girl. And have lesbian sex with Yasuna happily ever after. After all, this show does focus more on gender confusion and lesbianism than heterosexuality.
I would be seriously disappointed if the ending wound up being a dumb, generic hetero pairing.
Since the manga is ongoing (and should continue long after the show ends), I’d actually expect an inconclusive ending. For example, perhaps Tomari and Yasuna will work out their differences and agree to share Hazumu - as a friend. Interested in the rest of the story? Check out the manga! 750 yen, please!
That said, some sort of “gender crisis” that forces Hazumu to choose between being a boy or girl sounds like a reasonable ending for the manga… whenever the mangaka gets around to it.
Someone I know has suggested that in the end Tomari should become a guy and end up with Hazumu.
Which would raise howls of protest from lots of people, but it’d be an interesting way to end the series.
Heaven help me, I checked out the manga. I probably should’ve stopped reading at the appropriate point that sort-of matches the anime, but… gah. I couldn’t resist!
The “can’t see male faces” thing is slightly better done in the manga than the anime (so far), especially given how Hazumu fits into that particular psychosis. (Avoiding spoilerage, here. Ahem.) As for who ends up with whom… I can’t hazard a prediction for either the manga or anime. I suppose that’s a good place to be, as it means there’s a good chance I won’t see what comes next.
Right?
Korean Soap Opera? Are you talking about the series ‘Gung ( Palace )’. Its has high scenic values, according to my wife, but the script and acting is terrible, yet many people likes it. Gosh, Are people getting dumber and dumber or am I becoming senile?
As much as i agree with your analysis, much more troubling is Hazumu’s dad and his constant antics to see his newly minted ‘daughter’ naked… that and Asuta falling for his best friend (pretty creepy).
After reading the manga and watching the show, it is still a toss up over who Hazumu will pick. I hope she picks Tomari but I like Asuta too. I will be so angry if she picks Yasuna, the whole can’t see male’s faces bugs me. Somethng that bugs me even more though is all the guys that are obsessed with Hazumu. I can understand her best friend BUT HER DAD!?! Come on people!
